PURI: A video statement posted by a youth on Facebook minutes before he committed suicide led to the arrest of his wife and her paramour. In the video, Santanu Patra narrated the alleged torture by his wife and her lover that forced him to take the extreme step, leaving behind his widowed mother to fend for herself. According to Puri super-intendent of police (SP) Sarthak Sarangi, the deceased’s wife and her paramour Amaresh Swain of Jagatsinghpur were arrested on Monday after hours of interrogation.
On Sunday, the SP had said the police had got “vital evidences” of the woman’s regular communication with Amaresh before she got married to Santanu and even afterwards. According to the video posted by Santanu, his wife, who is working as a nurse at a private nursing home in Cuttack, had a love affair with Amaresh before their marriage and was pregnant.
He alleged that she committed abortion before the marriage and her family members did not reveal the fact to him. “Amaresh had sent me photos of his and my wife’s intimate moments. When I confronted my wife, she denied it outright and claimed that the pictures were morphed. Later, she admitted that the photographs were real ones,” he said in the video.
Santanu further alleged in the video that his wife had “sexual relationship” with Amaresh after their marriage as well. He went on to say that his wife’s family members were torturing and threatening him and he was no longer able to bear the humiliations. However, the wom-an had defended herself saying she was not invol-ved in such extra-marital affairs with Amaresh, al-though she admitted that her marriage was fixed with latter before she got married to Santanu. “Prior to tying the knot with my husband Santanu Patra, my marriage was fixed by my family with Amaresh Swain Th-ere was no such relation of mine with Amaresh after marriage,” she said in a video.
