ANANTAPUR: The team of Anantapur Central GST division seized a truck with Paris and Gold Step Filter brands of cigarettes being transported at Tapovanam circle here on Sunday. Anantapur division assistant commissioner of GST Central tax G. Antitha said the team acted on a tip-off over illegal transportation of cigarettes and seized the truck coming from Patna and heading to Cuddalore.
On verification, the official said taxpayer’s registration was suo motu
cancelled by the department in June last year.
Upon searching, the team found the cigarettes worth Rs 2.34 crore packed in
138 cartons. The stock and the vehicle were seized.
