GHMC seizes 21 trucks for unsafe transport of boulders

Hyderabad: The GHMC’s Directorate of Enforcement, Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) said it had seized 21 heavy vehicles for transporting boulders excavated at building sites as well as construction and demolition (C&D) waste in a hazardous manner and imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on each vehicle owner.

An official said the boulders were being transported in unsafe conditions, posing a threat to other road users. While some vehicles were using tarpaulin sheets to cover the waste, a few vehicles were overloaded.

He said the GHMC should be contacted to transport C&D waste, which offers a service for Rs 398.50 per tonne including collection, transportation and processing fees. If debris is transported to a recycling plant using its own facilities, after taking appropriate safety measures, the fee is Rs 99.62 per tonne.

EV&DM director N. Prakash Reddy said the service can be reached on the GHMC helpline at 18001201159 or via the MyGHMC app.

Out of the 21 vehicles, five were caught on the Madinaguda-Bandlaguda, Lingampally-Patancheru, IKEA-Gopanpally, Shaikpet-Kali Mandir and Himayatsagar-Rajendranagar stretches.

Sixteen were caught in the eastern and northern parts of the city and outskirts including Secunderabad, Osmania University Road, Uppal and Ghatkesar.
