KOTTAYAM: The Anjaly murder case investigation has suffered a setback with the Central Forensic science laboratory, Hyderabad, failing to prove that the bones were that of Anjaly. The attempts to extract the DNA samples from the bones of Anjaly failed and the CFSL authorities were not able to compare the DNA samples of Anjaly with that of her daughter.
Anjaly, 31, wife of Pradeep Kumar of Prabha Nilayam, Ponpuzha, Ithithanam near Changanassery, was murdered by Pradeep by throwing her into a ravine at Vagamon at Vagamon, Karikkadu top, after giving her sleeping pills on October 27, 2009. Anjaly had become a paraplegic following an accident. Now, the prosecution has to solely depend on the circumstantial evidence to prove the case in the court of law.
Changanassery CI, Zacharia Mathew, who is investigating the case, told DC that the police were yet to file the charge-sheet in the case. After the murder, Pradeep Kumar claimed that Anjaly might have committed suicide as she was in poor health. Though Anjaly’s relatives expressed doubts about the suicide story, the police did not make any headway in the case.
In the meantime, the accused married two other women on different occasions. It was when the police questioned him over a complaint filed by a woman that he admitted to the murder of Anjaly. The bones of Anjaly were retrieved after search by the police and the locals in the ravine for at least four times.
They were first sent to the FSL, Thiruvananthapuram, on September 13, 2013. After it failed to find whether the bones were that of Anjaly, they were sent to the CFSL in May 2015. Prabhavathy, 63, mother of Pradep Kumar, the second accused in the case, was recently taken into custody by the police.
