Karnataka: Anonymous letter alleged rape by school peon, victim not traceable
Hubbali: Police department and various government officials are groping in the dark to find out the rape victim student after they got her anonymous letter, which was also addressed to the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The student of a private high school situated in a village of Bagalkot taluk has posted a letter to several departments seeking justice and punitive action against the rapists. However, as she had not stated her address, the officials have been forced to enquire with all students and teachers of the school mentioned in the letter.
The student reportedly belongs to Dalit community and has complained that the school peon along with three others had raped her after offering her cold drinks laced with intoxicants.
She alleged that the peon had taken her to Bagalkot three months ago under the pretext of offering scholarship and raped her on the way.
The girl also stated that she had undergone treatment at private hospital after her father refused file any complaint in police station.
She has also stated that several other girls students are also suffering from similar sexual assaults. The letter has all details about a copy addressed to the office of Prime Minister, No. 152, South Block, Raisina Hills, New Delhi.
She also claimed that her school teacher had helped her to write the letter, which is also addressed to Union minister Maneka Gandhi, State Women’s Right Commission, chief executive officer of Zilla Panchayat and Superintendant of police.
Bagalkot Superintendant of police C.B. Rishyant said that he has already interrogated 78 girls students and teachers of the school with the help women and child welfare department officials soon after receiving the letter. He has also enquired the school peon who is named in the letter.
DDPI K.S. Karichannannavar claimed he had conducted a separate enquiry, but he too could not get any information about rape victim or culprits. The officials are studying the handwriting of all students in their answer scripts to zero in on the student who has posted the letter.
“We cannot lodge any complaint until the rape victim has approached us. The school management is also extending all cooperation to identify the girl. Though we have got some clues, we will arrive at some decision only after conducting thorough investigation,” Rishyant said.
