Assaulted woman gives birth to baby
Chennai: The pregnant woman, allegedly beaten up by women police officers on duty at Government Kasturbha Gandhi Hospital last week, gave birth to a girl child at a private hospital in Porur on the same night. After spending a few days at the hospital, Muthambikai and her family returned to their native Tirupati. Apart from beating up Muthambikai, police had threatened to book her husband under narcotics substances handling case. Moreover, the women cops had forced the family to leave the hospital even as the treatment was underway.
When DC tracked the family, her husband Tamilarasan said he got her admitted to a hospital in Porur after being thrown out of Kasturbha hospital. She has developed complications while travelling back in a bus to Tirupati after the horrific incidents to which the family was subjected to in the hospital. The same night around 10 pm she delivered a baby girl. “After getting discharged, we reached home on Wednesday. My child is keeping well but my wife is still under shock. She is taking psychiatric medicines,” he added.
The baby girl weighed 3.5 kg at birth and was named Muthamizh Chelvi. Thirty-one-year-old Muthambikai, a second-year law student from Tirupati, had come to Chennai along with her husband and her two-year-old child on Friday evening to treat her high blood pressure and other discomforts. “The city police are yet to register an FIR and no action has been taken against the police officers in question,” alleged Tamilarasan.
