Hyderabad: Upset over not being invited to a family function, a 20-year-old newly married woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence in Owaisipura of Humayunnagar.
According to the police, she got married against her parents will about two months ago and was upset that they did not call her for a function at their house.
The victim was identified as Mehroon Begum, 20, police said. “She fell in love and married Mazher Khan against her family’s wishes about two months ago and has been staying away from them ever since. Three days ago, her family held a function and did not call her. She slipped into depression and set herself on fire, claimed her husband in his statement to the police on Monday afternoon.” said the police inspector of Humayunnagar, Korani Sunil, adding that her relatives shifted her to Osmania General Hospital, where she succumbed to her burns and breathed her last while undergoing treatment.
The police registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of CrPC and shifted the body for postmortem examination.
