Hyderabad: Intruder in OU women hostel molests inmate
Hyderabad: An unidentified person slipped into the Osmania University (OU) ladies hostel in the dead of night on Thursday and held four girls hostage at knife point.
At about 3 am, the man reportedly scaled the back wall of the hostel and entered the first floor of the building, where many students were asleep.
A girl who was in the washroom heard a male voice — police assume he was speaking on a mobile phone — and tried to lock herself into the washroom. But the intruder heard her and forced her out at knife point and reportedly misbehaved with her.
Inspector S. Rajashekhar Reddy of the Osmania University police station said, “Hearing her raise an alarm, other hostel mates woke up and were shocked to see a man with a weapon. He locked four girls into a room. When they began screaming, the other girls rushed to the room. The man jumped from the first floor and escaped in the dark. He took along a mobile phone of one of the girls, which was broken.”
The warden called the police and a team with a dog squad and clues team arrived. The police were able to recover the broken mobile of one of the girls.
The OU police has registered a case and investigation is under way. The CCTV cameras are only in front of the hostel and were of no use in capturing an image of the man who had sneaked in from the back. Special teams have been formed to find the accused.
The OU girls’ hostel houses hundreds of students coming from remote villages and districts. It is located within the massive campus.
