Rajiv Gandhi International Airport contract worker killed by speeding car

The woman fell at a distance and received severe head injuries.

Hyderabad: A 31-year-old woman labourer working on contract basis at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was killed by a speeding car when she was on her way to attend nature’s call on Monday morning.

According to RGIA assistant sub-inspector Haleem, the woman has been identified as Yellamma, 31, a resident of Shamshabad. She was involved in beautification work at the airport premises. “During the early hours of Monday, while at work, Yellamma told her colleagues that she would attend nature’s call and return. While she was crossing the road, a speeding cab (TS 07 UC 8645) hit her. The woman fell at a distance and received severe head injuries. With the help of people, she was taken to Apollo Hospital in the airport where the doctors declared her brought dead,” said the ASI.

He said that the driver abandoned the cab and fled from the spot. The vehicle has been detained, a case under Section 304 A of IPC registered and a search is on to apprehend him, said ASI Haleem.

The cab has 14 challans pending against it, six of them for wrong parking, two for overspeeding, three for not wearing a seat belt and one for stop line violation. An amount of Rs 4,650 is pending payment.
