Tirupati: A worker died and another sustained serious injuries when their two-wheeler got hit by a tipper truck near Chittacheruvu Cross on Tirupati-Pachikapallam Road on Thursday.
Ramachandrapuram police identified the deceased as K. Kesavulu (40), a native of Bahadurpeta in Ramachandrapuram mandal, and the injured as R. Suresh (40) of Rayalacheruvupeta village.
The mishap occurred around 2 p.m. when the two were returning to Rayalacheruvupeta from Pachikapallam.
Locals said accidents in the area are frequent as tipper trucks are being driven in the area recklessly by inexperienced drivers. Just two days ago, another tipper truck claimed the life of a woman from Durgasamudram village on the same route, they pointed out.
Sub-inspector S. Giri Babu said they reached Chittacheruvu Cross soon after locals informed them about the accident. They shifted Kesavulu and Suresh to S.V.R. Ruia Government General hospital in Tirupati. Kesava died while undergoing treatment while Suresh has been shifted to a private hospital by his relatives for better treatment.
Police have registered a case. The tipper driver has been taken into custody.
