Chennai: Divyang minor gang raped for 7 months
Chennai: In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old hearing impaired girl was allegedly gang raped by 18 men for the past seven months. The incident came to light when the girl, studying at a private school near Secretariat Colony, complained of acute stomach pain to her sister and then she was taken to hospital, where the doctor examined and confirmed that many people had sexually assaulted her.
According to police sources, the lift operator in the apartment complex at Secretariat Colony, identified as Ravi (66) had taken her to an isolated place and raped her. Later, he called a couple of others from outside and they had allegedly raped her when they were under the influence of drugs and alcohol and recorded the whole incident to threaten her not to tell anyone about it. Due to this, the girl could not tell anybody.
When Ravi realised the girl was tight lipped, he also invited the plumber and electrician to rape the girl. She was allegedly taken to isolated places including basements, public washrooms, the terrace and gym to be raped, said the investigating officer.
The girl’s father runs an electronic shop and her mother is a home maker. Her elder sister is studying in a private college in another city.
On Monday, the police detained 18 men, all working in the same apartment as plumber, security or housekeeping. A senior police officer said three men have confessed to the crime. Police have detained 16 others and are conducting inquires.
The girl’s father first lodged a complaint at Ayanavaram police station on Sunday and it was immediately forwarded to Vepery All-Women police station. A case was registered and the girl was sent to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital for a medical examination. A magistrate inquiry has also been ordered into the incident.
