Hyderabad: Woman from ST Lambada community confined to PS at night, beaten up
Hyderabad: In yet another incident of police high handedness, a woman belonging to the ST - Lambada community was thrashed black and blue by the LB Nagar police of Rachakonda commissionerate in Hyderabad, leaving the woman with severe injuries. The woman was picked up by the night patrol team, shifted to the police station, where she was confined all through the night and beaten up.
The woman identified as Vadthya Laxmi, a resident of Meerpet had gone to visit her relatives at LB Nagar. Laxmi was arranging money for her daughter's marriage for which he went to her relatives to seek financial help.
After having food from the relative's home she was returning to her home in Meerpet. When she came to the main road to take an auto rickshaw by around 11pm on Tuesday the police approached her and questioned her.
"They forcefully took me to the police station and made me sit there. I showed them proof of my daughter's wedding and informed them that I was returning home from my relatives’ place. But they snatched my mobile phone and started abusing me,” said Laxmi.
She added that they made her lie down and started beating with a ‘black strap’ and then kicked her with shoes. “As I shouted in pain, they beat me with sticks. For no reason I was detained and beaten up in the police station,” she said.
Meanwhile, police claimed that the woman was soliciting prostitution standing on the highway, due to which she was picked up at around 2.30am. DCP LB Nagar B Sai Sree told Deccan Chronicle they have initiated an inquiry into the alleged incident. “A thorough inquiry would be done and strict action will be taken against those responsible,” she said.
