Nellore: Papers on assets worth crores seized from official
Nellore: ACB teams are conducting raids on the properties of ZP CEO and Nellore in-charge municipal commissioner B. Rami Reddy in Nellore, Tirupati, Guntur and Hyderabad simultaneously. 14 ACB teams are involved in the operation, and they have seized property documents worth several crores. The search is still going on.
Police said Rami Reddy started his career as tahsildar and worked as MRO, RDO, DWMA project director, DRO and CEO of Nellore ZP. He also worked as estate officer at TTD, RDO, Tirupati and as executive officer of Srikalahas-theeswara Swamy Devasthanam. He is due to retire in March this year. Police said they are checking several proxy transactions and links to Rami Reddy. ACB’s Nellore DSP Thota Prabhakar said they discreetly gathered information about his assets after complaints of corruption.
He said they found documents regarding 14 house sites besides buildings in Guntur, Tirupati, Kavali, Hyderabad and a four storey building in Nellore. This is in addition to nine acres of land in Takkellapadu village. The teams found two promissory notes in the name of Ramineni Babu of Tirupati regarding a loan of Rs 10 lakh borrowed by the latter in 2012. They also seized cheques worth Rs 26 lakh. Mr Prabhakar said they are suspecting that Ramineni Babu is a proxy of Rami Reddy owning 10 acres worth around Rs 18 crore near Tirupati.
The sleuths confiscated Rs 2 lakh. They suspect that he shifted 5 to 6 kg gold from his home fearing ACB raids. However, they seized 1.25 kg gold worth Rs 25 lakh from the lockers of his daughter Sireesha and daughter-in-law Yamini in Andhra Pragati Grameena Bank. The ACB teams also unearthed sizable properties in the name of a deputy tahsildar of TTD, Peddaiah Naidu, in Tirupati during raids suspecting links with Rami Reddy. DSP Thota Prabhakar has put the worth of property documents seized at Rs 3 crore as per registration price. The market rate will be much more.
