Inter-state peddler held, drugs worth ₹7.92L seized
Hyderabad: A Goa-based inter-state drug peddler was arrested in Hyderabad on Thursday, police said adding that they recovered drugs such as ecstasy pills, cocaine, MDMA all worth ₹7.92 lakh from his possession.
The accused, Sayan Lahiri, a native of Goa was arrested by Choutuppal police while he was trying to sell the banned substance to clients at Toopranpet village at Ashoka Engineering College in Choutuppal, DCP (Yadadri district), M. Rajesh Chandra said.
According to police, the key accused, Edmund Dilip Spencer Pereira, who is absconding, supplies MDMA, blue punisher, cocaine and other synthetic drugs to pubs, rave parties and directly to potential consumers on higher rates in Goa. To make a fast buck, Edmund and Lahiri decided to supply the same in Hyderabad, Rajesh said. Police also found that they have been procuring the drug from one Edwin in Goa and selling in other states for the past three years. The seized drugs were in a concentrated form over 400 times more effective than normal synthetic drugs, DCP said. Acting on a tip-off, Lahiri was caught red-handed by the Choutuppal police and booked under NDPS Act.
Police seized 60 pills of blue-coloured MDMA worth ₹3 lakh, 40 pink-coloured MDMA pills worth ₹2 lakh, some other narcotic substance worth ₹1.80 lakh, 3.9 grams of cocaine worth ₹1 lakh, a mobile phone, all worth ₹7.92 lakh from the accused. Lahiri was produced before the court and sent to Cherlapally prison.
