Two acquitted in bid to kidnap ‘non-existent’ doc case
HYDERABAD: The curious case of an attempt to kidnap a ‘non-existent’ doctor at SR Nagar in 2015 reached its logical conclusion with the Metropolitan Sessions Court at Nampally acquitting the two persons accused in the case. The order was passed on June 22 and became available on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that the Hyderabad Task Force had arrested two persons for allegedly plotting to kidnap a doctor working for a reputed corporate hospital for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
During the investigation, the police could not prove the charges against the accused. They could not prove the existence of the target.
The court pointed out that the investigating officer (IO) had not recorded the statement of the doctor nor produced him as a witness. It had not collected evidence to prove the existence of the doctor. There was no independent witness evidence except the confession made to a police officer, the court order noted.
The prosecution named nine witnesses but examined only three — the Task Force official who apprehended the accused, mediator for the confession of the accused and the investigation office — the court noted.
During the examination, the Task Force official admitted that he did not record any general diary entry of the incident. The mediator in whose presence, the accused’s confession was recorded, resiled during the trial.
Meanwhile, the court pointed out contradicting versions on the arrest of the accused. “The Task Force official claimed that he apprehended the accused on October 9, 2015, but the IO admitted that they were produced before him on February 2, 2015, much before the earlier claim, raising doubt on the prosecution case,” the court said in its order.
