Hyderabad: Ketamine, commonly known as a date rape drug, which is supplied to users in Hyderabad city, is usually transported from Mumbai, Goa and sometimes Bengaluru. However, with increased surveillance of police and other law enforcement agencies on these routes, drug traffickers have moved to other routes to traffic this drug into the city, suspect the cops.
In all the cases related to Ketamine detected in the past, these three cities have been a source of supply for the peddlers and it was from these cities, ketamine was trafficked into the city. But in one of the recent cases, it was found that the peddlers trafficked Ketamine from Odisha. Some districts of Odisha are known for supplying Ganja, but Ketamine trafficked from there is a new area of concern for them, an official said.
There are possibilities that this synthetic drug landed in the hands of Ganja suppliers in Odisha in exchange for Ganja. There are also chances that to dodge police and enforcement agencies, the peddlers have adopted this route, they opined.
Usually, foreign nationals visiting cities like Goa lookout for Ganja, but since Ganja supply is relatively less in Goa in comparison with synthetic drugs, the peddlers procure Ganja from Ganja suppliers in exchange for Ketamine.
The Ganja peddlers also sometimes supply synthetic drugs to their consumers, creating a new market all together, said officials.
