Retired IFS Officer Loses 98K to Cyber Fraud
Hyderabad: An octogenarian from Secunderabad, a retired IFS officer, became a victim of cyber fraud and lost Rs 98,000. The fraudsters impersonated an Army personnel who approached him looking for the rent and syphoned money from his account.
The retired official has uploaded details of his vacant flat on Housing.com for giving in on rent. A day later, he received a call from a person identified as Pawar Deepak Bajrang, claiming to be working as a Subedar in the Indian Army and expressed interest in the vacant flat.
On being asked by the complainant, the caller shared his identity card and other documents through WhatsApp. Later the caller told him to send payment through Gpay, and he would send links to download the app.
As the complainant clicked on the links shared by the caller, he noticed three transactions happened from his bank account. He immediately tried calling the caller, but there was no response. Realising that he was cheated to the tune of a total of Rs 98,000, he lodged a complaint with Tukaram Gate police, who registered a case on Thursday and started an investigation.
