UP: Man rapes, impregnates woman; sells off baby for Rs 25,000
Bareilly (UP): A 25-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh has alleged that a man raped her in 2014, married her under pressure from the community when she delivered a baby, and then sold off the baby for Rs 25,000.
According to a report, the woman, who is now divorced, told the Bareilly SSP that she wanted her daughter back and her ex-husband punished.
The woman said that she met Shavez in 2013 when she was working as a zari artisan. The two began a relationship as he used to frequent her house for his work. After promising marriage, Shavez got into a physical relationship with the woman. However, when she became pregnant, he started threatening her of dire consequences if she narrated her ordeal to anyone or approached police for help.
Under pressure from the community, Shavez married the woman, but then sold their baby to a childless couple for Rs 25,000. She claims that he later divorced her and forced her to marry a middle-aged man with seven children, but she ran away.
The woman finally registered a complaint at Premnagar police station in June last year. An FIR under IPC's section 376 (rape) was filed. The man’s family then consented to an agreement with the woman and the matter was considered over.
However, as soon as the police filed a final report in the case, the man turned down the terms of agreement leaving the woman feeling cheated again, said the report.
The woman has now filed a complaint with the SSP and wants a probe into the incident, stating that she has been suffering for 3 years and now wants her child back.
