Nalgonda police seize Rs.1 crore cash at poll-bound Munugode

HYDERABAD: The Nalgonda police said on Monday that they had seized Rs 1 crore cash at poll-bound Munugode. Police said the cash was being transported from Vijayawada on the instructions of BJP leader and former MP G. Vivek Venkataswamy.

Nalgonda police in a release said that during “dynamic checking” in view of the November 3 by-election, they had intercepted an SUV at Chalmeda crossroads under the Munugode police station limits. On searching the vehicle, police said, they found Rs 1 crore cash in it.

Police found Soppari Venu from Karimnagar, husband of Karimnagar 13th division corporator, among the occupants of the vehicle.

He told the police that on the instructions of Venkatswamy, he had collected the cash from one Ramu in Vijayawada and was transporting it. Police said the cash was being handed over to the incometax department, while they were verifying claims of Venu.
