Chhattisgarh: Naxal gunned down in Bastar, weapon recovered

Body of a Maoist along with an AK 47 assault rifle was recovered by security forces at the site after the encounter ended.

Raipur: A suspected Maoist was on Tuesday gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district under Bastar in Chhattisgarh.

The incident took place in the forest of Bandepara under Madded police station limits at around six in the morning, police said.

Acting on intelligence inputs on the presence of a large number of Maoists including some senior leaders, security forces launched a combing operation in the area, police said.

The Maoists however opened fire on the security forces when the latter was cordoning off the area, leading to exchange of fire between them.

The slain Maoist was yet to be identified, police said.
