Police seize a total Rs 165 crore since October 9 in TS

Hyderabad: The state law enforcement agencies have seized Rs 35.52 crore cash on Tuesday, taking the total cash seized for transporting without valid documents from October 9 to Rs 165 crore.

From the beginning of the moral code of conduct on October 9, police and excise officials have seized Rs 8.99 crore worth liquor, Rs 7.55 crore worth drugs, Rs 62.73 crore worth precious metals, Rs 8.64 crore with freebies such as laptops, vehicles, cookers, saris and others

In the 24 hours preceding 9 am on October 18, the officials seized 7,000 litres of liquor, 1,982 kg jaggery and 40 kg alum, 1,086 kg ganja worth Rs 3 crore, Rs 22.65 worth precious metals and Rs 2.30 crore worth freebies.

Bachupally police and municipal officials on Wednesday seized two trucks loaded with saris worth Rs 2.25 crore, when they were being unloaded at Panchavati Apartments in Pragathi Nagar.

Later, the police also seized the bundles of saris that were dumped from another truck at the apartment. The material was brought from Warangal district by one M. Venkatesh, who claimed to be a bulk distributor.

“We asked him to produce the relevant receipts which he could not and we handed over the seized material and the trucks to the Election Commission,” said an official.

The Humayunagar police, during a surprise check at Miraj crossroads, found one Buyyani Janaradhan (50), a private employee, who was carrying Rs 30 lakh cash on a two-wheeler.

When he failed to produce cash receipts, police seized the cash and remitted it to the returning officer, Nampally, said B. Suman Kumar, inspector at Bachupally police station.

During a routine vehicle check near Swapnalok Complex, the Mahankali police seized two kg of gold worth Rs 1.2 crore.

According to the police, the person named Kummari Srikanth, who works in Sahasra Jewellery Shop, Nirmal, said he was in the city under instructions from Rajashekar Raju, the owner of Siddi Vinayaka Jewellery shop in Adilabad, to purchase gold from M. Rajender Kumar who runs a jewellery shop in General Bazar. The seized property was later handed over to the returning officer, police said.
