Hyderabad: Married two days ago, couple commits suicide
Hyderabad: Two days ago, Aalakunta Swamy and Shivaratri Umarani from Arur village in Veligonda mandal got married, taking an oath of inseparability. Today, they committed suicide by consuming poison at the Dolphin hotel in Bhongir. Reason: they had married on February 16 against the wishes of their families.
The two of them were in a relationship for three years, but their families were not willing to give them permission to get married. The boy and girl lived opposite each other for years and belonged to the same community, Bhongir police said.
The couple had come to Ghatkesar police station on February 16 after their marriage at the Kundm-arugu Sai Baba temple. In their appeal to Ghatkesar police, the couple said that their family would kill them if they learnt about their marriage.
The couple approached the police for support and wanted help to deal with their family members. The police counselled the couple not to panic, promising that they would speak to and counsel both the sets of parents. However, the police did not keep their word and counsel the parents.
The girl family claimed that the two families were locked in a land dispute. The boy’s family, on the other hand, alleged that it was the Umarani family that created a ruckus about nothing, and cribbing about even small issues to the entire neighbourhood, due to which they had chosen to disconnect with them.
The Swamy family condemned the suicide of the couple, telling the police, “This was a pre-planned murder by them (girl’s family). Since we denied them permission for the wedding, they attempted murder. Firstly, Uma trapped my son in the name of love. He was obsessed about her. He would create a fight professing his love for her at home every single day. He was not willing to see other girls because his infatuation for her. She has killed my son by making him drink poison and consuming the same later.”
The two bodies were sent by the police to the Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.
