Hyderabad: A 28-year-old engineer died by suicide at her house in Fatehnagar after her male friend, who had cheated her, refused to marry her and assaulted her, Sanathnagar police said.
Police said the victim, B. Karuna, who aspired to be an air hostess, became friends with the accused K. Rahul. They entered into an affair and, after Rahul’s promise of marriage, had a physical relationship. Rahul also promised to help her get admission into an air hostess training course, police said.
After gaining her confidence, Rahul borrowed Rs. 5 lakh from a bank in Karuna’s name and failed to repay it.
Karuna and her sister on Friday evening went to Rahul’s house where Karuna asked him to keep his promise. Rahul abused and assaulted her, police said.
Upon her return home, Karuna died by suicide. Police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Rahul and reportedly took him into custody.
