Hyderabad: A Class IX boy from Madhapur, was caught red-handed videographing women living in a hostel located next to his house. The boy was later apprehended and booked for voyeurism, and is being questioned, Madhapur police said.
At about 9.30 pm on Sunday, a 22-year-old woman who lives in a hostel near the Madhapur Metro station, noticed a flashlight focused on the window of the bathroom where she was bathing. A closer examination revealed a boy on the terrace of the neighbouring building video-taping. She alerted her hostel mates, and they went to the boy’s house and caught him.
When they checked his phone, they found over 3,000 videos and pictures taken from his tablet, some of them of the hostellers bathing. About 20 women, who live on the same floor of the hostel went to the Madhapur police station and lodged a complaint against the boy, alleging voyeurism.
The 14-year-old boy is the son of a realtor in the city. His mother is a housewife. The boy studies in a private school located near his house.
Madhapur inspector Y. Nageshwar Rao confirmed the events and the existence of the videos. “At around 2 am, about 20 women, all supposed to be victims living on the same floor came to the police station on Monday and complained. The victims are both students and employees. The mobile phones and Tabs present in the boy's house were immediately checked. But, he had put a password to the Tab, which he claims to have forgotten. The Tab has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis, which would be done by the women officials there,” the inspector said.
He said around 70 women live in the hostel and 20 of them are suspected to be victims of the voyeurism.
The investigation is on to find out if the boy has shared the videos with others. He will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board after the prima facie enquiry. The police are also planning to suggest counselling for the boy.
