Duo held for kidnap, rape
HYDERABAD: Within hours of receiving a complaint, the Narsingi police arrested two persons who had allegedly kidnapped, raped and robbed a 33-year-old woman on Saturday evening.
Sources said the police arrested one accused, Sumith Kumar Sharma, into custody on Sunday after tracking him from the car registration details. Based on his confession, police picked up the other accused, Shubham Sharma alias Dhanu.
Police also seized the car (TS15 UC 9730) used in the incident, said G.V Ramana Goud, assistant commissioner of police, Narsingi.
Police said that at about 6 pm on Saturday, the duo dragged the victim into their car on the Peram Cheruvu village road while she was returning home after working in a nearby gated community, and drove away.
The accused forced her to drink liquor and raped her in the moving car till the early hours of Sunday. They abandoned her on the Gandipet road after snatching her two-tola gold chain. The victim regained consciousness at about 3 am and called her husband and uncle. They went to the spot in a two-wheeler, rescued her and lodged a complaint with the Narsingi police.
The victim told the police that the accused had met her on February 17, near her house in Peram Cheruvu village and told that they needed a housekeeper. She told them she was busy, and they left after taking her phone number. The victim said the accused spoke in Telugu and were aged between 30 and 35 years. Police formed a special team and tracked the accused using CCTV footage and other technical evidence.
