Kapil Mohan case: Cops yet to send CDs for forensic tests
Bengaluru: The city police have not yet sent the material, the CDs in the alleged child pornography case, which is reportedly linked to senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan, for forensic examination.
The Lokayukta police, who are investigating the alleged disproportionate assets case against Mr Mohan, had reportedly seized some CDs, which contained child pornography during their search operations in November last year from an upscale flat in the city, which belongs to the IAS officer’s family.
The city police (North) had subsequently registered the case in the same month, but the investigation is yet to see the light of day even after three months.
“The Lokayukta police had sent a mail containing the mirror image of the CDs in a pen drive to the city police in January. The investigating officer has to copy the image and send it for forensic examination to Forensic Science Laboratory for the probe to begin,” said an official source.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the disproportionate assets case has also gone slow after the government announced the setting up of the Anti Corruption Bureau to probe cases under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988.
“The government order is clear on the jurisdiction of the Lokayukta police and the ACB. The Lokayukta police no longer have powers to investigate cases under PC Act and all cases, which are being investigated by them, including Mr Mohan’s case, will be transferred to the ACB soon after it is set up,” said an official source.
