Hyderabad: RPF cop turned chain-snatcher arrested
Hyderabad: In a case of cop turned chain-snatcher, Chilkalguda police nabbed Vanipenta Harshavardhan Reddy, working as a constable with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Secunderabad, in connection with a chain-snatching case reported on Wednesday morning.
The case was detected in a few hours from the time of reporting, DI P. Rukmini said adding that the case was detected based on evidence from CCTV footage and other evidence. The stolen property was recovered intact from his possession.
Analysis of CCTVs near the spot and the cameras in next locations led the cops to Secunderabad railway station. Cops, who had already analysed the footage, had noticed the suspect had a typical hairstyle and a body language.
Based on this observation, they picked up Harshavardhan and on questioning he admitted to the offence.
Inquiries also revealed that the accused faced heavy losses in stock markets and to make up for the loss he decided to make easy money by snatching.
On Wednesday around 6.30 am, he approached the victim, 73, and under the guise of asking her for rented houses, snatched her gold chain weighing around 4 tolas and fled away. He was sent to judicial remand, the police said.
