Puducherry: Puducherry’s inter-gang rivalry has once again shown its ugly face and begun to haunt the Union Territory with the murder of three notorious rowdies.

Tension gripped the residents of the Mettuppalayam industrial area as a gang of more than 10 men waylaid and attacked three persons, said to be from a rival gang, and hacked them to death.

According to police, a gang of more than 10 members reached near a factory in the Mettuppalayam industrial area on Thursday morning where Gnanasekar, Sathish and Gerald, reportedly from a rival gang, were consuming liquor.

They hurled country bombs at the three, injuring them all and hacked them to death with weapons.

The residents of the nearby area alerted the police after hearing the sound of the explosion. Police with a team of forensic experts reached the spot and made preliminary inquiries.

The victims have various cases against them in local police stations ranging from robbery to murder.

Both the gangs belong to the same area and the rivalry started over the establishment of supremacy in the area.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) A. Chandran had met Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy to brief the police action and progress in the inquiry.

“Six people have been taken into custody for inquiry. We have identified some of the assailants and search for them had started. They will be arrested soon”, said the SSP after his meeting with the Chief Minister.

The notorious inter gang rivalry in Puducherry showed its comeback action by executing the brutal murder of former Speaker and agriculture minister V.M.C. Sivakumar in broad daylight.

A number of incidents followed after the murder of the former minister involving gangs, shattering the peace of the town. The new incident involving gang rivals has raised concern among the public.
