Accused in hit and run case gets bail

HYDERABAD: Justice C. Sumalatha of the Telangana High Court on Monday granted bail to an accused in a hit-and-run case. The judge was dealing with a petition filed by Beemaraiah from Habal T village in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) district.

The petitioner was arrayed as the accused in a case pertaining to threatening an on-duty constable of Basheerbagh police station. The prosecution contended that during a routine vehicle check in December, the petitioner was driving a tractor with an attached trolley that was stopped for checking. He allegedly threatened the constable that he would drive over him.

The petitioner’s counsel alleged that the police asked for a bribe. Later, the constable tried to pull the keys of the tractor, being in motion, had driven itself on the legs of the constable.

The judge enlarged the petitioner on bail with a sum of Rs 75,000 to be paid towards the bail bond.
