Hyderabad: Auto drivers harass woman techie, held
Hyderabad: A 31-year-old woman entrepreneur living in the city alleged that two drunk men including an autorickshaw driver misbehaved with her after running their vehicle into her car on Thursday night. The woman accused the police and the suspects of ‘staring’ at her.
At about 11.15 pm on Thursday, when the woman along with her male friend was in a car parked in front of 9 Star restaurant in Bachupally, an autorickshaw hit their vehicle.
The woman and her friend stepped out of the car to check the damage and autorickshaw driver Shiva and his friend Rajesh also got down. The two sides argued, and the techie’s friend reportedly beat the autorickshaw driver after the couple was threatened by Shiva and Rajesh. The duo reportedly told them that they were locals, and could harm them as they do not hail from the city.
The techie recorded the incident on her phone, which was later shared on social media. The video purported to show the drunk duo asking her to forgive them, and promising to pay the cost of the damage. The woman called the police through ‘Dial 100’. The police rushed to the spot and took the drunk duo into custody and booked a case against them, after a complaint from the techie.
She alleged that the policemen who went to the spot to attend her grievance stared at her, instead of taking immediate action.
Condemning the allegation. Bachupally inspector K. Balakrishna Reddy said, “She called Dial 100 at 11.28 pm, and at 11.30 pm, the patrol team reached the spot. Her allegations of the policemen staring at her are false.”
The inspector said Shiva and Rajesh were immediately taken to the police station and were found to be under the influence of alcohol. “The woman was immediately asked to visit the police station and give a complaint,” the inspector said.
Mr Balakrishna Reddy said Shiva, who was driving the autorickshaw, did not possess a driving licence. A case has been registered against the duo under Sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act.
