Dharmapuri: Woman kills self after poisoning 2 daughters
Dharmapuri: A vegetable vendor in Dharmapuri district in the habit of coming home fully drunk and indulging in wife-beating lost her in a suicide pact, even as their two daughters are battling for their lives in a private hospital in Krishnagiri.
Police said on Monday, 30-year-old G. Jothi was married to 40-year-old Govindaraj, a vegetable trader of Chinna Goundana Halli village in Palacode taluk of Dharmapuri district. The couple had two daughters, Shalani, 13 and nine-year-old Yogha Sree.
On Sunday, Jothi, vexed by her husband's incorrigible attitude, poisoned her two daughters and also committed suicide by consuming pesticide kept in the house for agriculture use.
Her neighbours who noticed the trio in a serious condition with frothing in the mouth, took them to the government hospital. Then, they were shifted to a private hospital in Krishnagiri after their health condition became worse.
Jothi died in the hospital soon after she was admitted there. Her daughters, Shalani and Yogha Sri, are kept in the intensive care unit and said to be in a very critical condition.
Their relatives told the police that Jothi took this extreme step of poisoning her children and also to kill herself because the woman could not tolerate the domestic violence of her tipsy husband.
