HYDERABAD: A 19-year-old intermediate student ended his life fearing that he was suffering from cancer.
According to Jeedimetla police, the victim Sharat Rao took the extreme step around 8 pm on Tuesday at his house in Chintal. Immediately, prior to that he called his mother Lakshmi Bai, who was busy in Ganesh puja at a mandap close to their house. When she said that she would be home soon, Sharat insisted that it was urgent. However, when she returned, she found Sharat had died by suicide. She alerted her husband Satynarayana Rao, who informed the police.
Around two weeks back, when he vomited blood, Sharat expressed his cancer fears to his mother. Although his mother told him about going to the family doctor after Ganesh festivities, he did not wait, police said.
Police shifted the body to Gandhi hospital for postmortem.
