Hyderabad: Many terror cases pending with Central Crime Station of Hyderabad police
Hyderabad: Around 10 terror cases and 125 communal violence cases are either on trial or are being investigated by the Special Investigation Team of the Central Crime Station of Hyderabad police. The SIT does not have a special court like NIA and all the 10 terror cases pending are being tried by the Seventh Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court at Nampally.
Similarly, communal violence cases are being tried by the 14th ACMM court in Nampally. Experts said that there is a need to set up a special court for SIT cases to try cases like the Begumpet Task Force suicide bombing that occurred in 2005.
Other terror cases charged sheeted by SIT and are under trial are the cases against Tehreek Ghalba-E-Islam activists of the Viqaruddin gang, the LeT case of Gidda Aziz who fought in Chechnya, the case of Lashkar-E-Toiba's Zubair Shareef module and the Adbul Kareem Tunda case. Two other cases of counter intelligence pertaining to Gokul and Lumbini blasts are also under trial.
SIT ACP D. Hari Kumar said, “We are expecting two cases of task force suicide bombing to be clubbed soon to speed up the trial. After five members of the Viqaruddin gang were killed in an exchange of fire the other accused of the module are facing trial.”
In robbery cases Omar Shameem and Vinod Kumar Sahu who sold weapons are facing trial. There is one more case of murder of a constable at the Volga Hotel by Viqar associates Riyaz and another accused. The trial of Gidda Aziz is yet to begin. In the case of Tunda the cases are tried against him in north India.
"Out of 125 communal cases we have filed charge sheets in 77 cases and around 20 are under investigation. We have speeded up the process including execution of pending NBWs. SIT has also been strengthened with around 25 staffers including inspectors and ASIs," said Hari Kumar.
Court imposes fine of Rs 1 lakh on terrorists
The NIA special court while giving IM terrorists the death penalty imposed a fine of around Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 1 lakh also under various heads. A fine of around Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 was imposed under each head and each person was fined around Rs 1 lakh.
The prosecutors said the other trials which the convicted terrorists are facing have nothing to do with this and this case will take its own course. Public prosecutor K. Surender said, “After confirmation by the High Court and Supreme Court and after presidential scrutiny the sentence will be implemented. There are 11 other blasts they are involved in and their outcome or pendency will not affect the judgment in this case.”
"The evidence of communication through electronic modes by Riyaz Bhatkal operating from Pakistan and Yasin Bhatkal operating from Nepal also helped. Apart from DNA fingerprinting the witnesses confirmed their stay in various places beyond doubt. Purchase of cycles and parking of the cycles at Malakpet railway station a day before, the test blast at Abdullahpurmet, vacating the room on the morning on the day of the blast telling the owners that they are leaving to Mumbai, carrying boxes in auto to Malakpet, persons who sold bicycles, persons who sold cookers have all testified against the accused," he added.
The CCTV footage found at Dilshuknagar was not of help to the investigators as the accused could not be identified from it.
