Police Bust Chain-Snatching Ring in Vizag

VISHAKHAPATNAM: Arilova police busted a chain-snatching racket being operated in the city of Visakhapatnam with the arrest of the prime suspect in a theft case. The police recovered the booty worth Rs 3,50,000 from the arrested person identified as Bheemarasettikamal Nad. He was arrested following a complaint by a woman, Guthula Lalitha, that the accused snatched her black bead chain with a locket weighing about 4 tolas, valued at Rs 1,00,000 on December 9 at the BRTS Service Road near Sai Baba temple in Pedagadili.

The police also seized four vehicles, including a Royal Enfield, Pulsar 150, and two Honda Activa scooters used in the commission of the crime by the accused.

Police said that the chain-snatching incident was part of a larger chain theft ring operating in the region. Bheemarasettikamal Nad, also known by various aliases, confessed to his offence during the investigation, they said.

The investigation also revealed information about other chain thefts in the areas under Jami, Kothavalasa, Denkada, Sabbavaram, Gopalapatnam and Anaparthy police stations.
