Bengaluru: 3 accused let off, 5 cops in dock
Chikkamagaluru: Five police officers at Narasimharaja Pura police station in Chikkamagaluru were served notice for letting off three out of the six accused involved in honey trapping racket.
They also did not bring the matter to the notice of district police Superintendent K. Annamalai.
Six people, including two women, were nabbed by police on January 17 for honey trapping and blackmailing people at a rented house in Tavirunalli.
After they were brought to the police station, the police deliberately let off Kairunissa, Rukhsana and Arun, while FIR was registered against Lijesh, Prakash and Narendra.
Arun, Kairunissa and Rukhsana are from Shivamogga. While Arun was taken into custody at Mandagadde, Kairunissa and Rukshana were nabbed from Sagara.
After local television channels reported the incident on Saturday, Annamalai held a press conference and confirmed that police had let off Kairunissa, Rukshana and Arun on January 17.
He criticized the N.R. Pura police for their ‘unprofessional’ conduct and said he would recommend the Inspector General of Police to take suitable action. He also sought a report from sleuths of District Crime Information Bureau (DCIB).
Annamalai said he suspected that the honey trapping racket might have been functioning for the past few years.
