‘Caller Imran’ arrested by Kalapather police
HYDERABAD: A 29-year-old tailor Mohammed Imran, known in the Old City as ‘Caller Imran’ for his persistence in calling elected representatives, and sometimes getting into trouble with the law was arrested by Kalapather police. Police alleged that they had found a dagger from his house, and they are investigating.
Last month Imran was beaten up by some unidentified persons armed with daggers but he had never carried a dagger, said his mother in a video that went viral Wednesday morning.
“An attempt to murder case has been booked against Imran and others. He was beaten up by the locals last month and recently he attacked one of them. Based on a complaint against him, we registered a case,” said N. Buchaiah, Kalapather police inspector.
Imran calls and reports civic issues in different localities of Old City and many leaders have responded to his calls and resolved issues, his cousin Mohammed Dastigir said.
Though Imran is appreciated for posting his recorded phone conversations online, it has ticked off many, and several cases have been filed against him in the past, including by some city legislators.
In the past, he was charged with insulting Madhya Pradesh MP Pragya Thakur and Madhya Pradesh police had visited his house in the Old City in February to serve a warrant on him, which he did not accept, inspector Sudarshan said.
