Gov. asks for report on ‘crimes’ of TRS leaders

The government is under increasing strain with the reports of crime in which TRS leaders are being accused as prime culprits

Hyderabad: The rising incidence of crime, including deaths and suicides, as well as allegations of rape and sexual harassment in which TRS leaders are being named as accused, have come under the scanner of Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Raj Bhavan on Thursday said the Governor directed the Telangana government to submit a report on all such crimes that have occurred in the state in the recent past.

The government, by all indications, is under increasing strain with the reports of crime in which TRS leaders are being accused as prime culprits. The latest missive from the Governor, who has in the past few weeks, made her displeasure at the behaviour of the state government known, is only expected to add to the stress.

Raj Bhavan said Dr Soundararajan sought a report from the government into the death of S. Sai Ganesh, a BJP activist in Khammam, who died by suicide. She also asked the government for a report on the suicide in Kamareddy of a woman and her son — Gangam Padma and Santosh.

In both these cases, TRS leaders have been named by the families of the deceased as prime accused. In the Khammam incident, minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar has been accused by the deceased's family as behind a slew of police cases against Sai Ganesh. The BJP, which has taken up this case with vigour, has sought a CBI probe into the death. The party also submitted a memorandum to the Governor.

Raj Bhavan said taht before directing the government for the report, the Governor went through media reports and the BJP's representation on Sai Ganesh's suicide, the Kamareddy suicides, and other gruesome crimes like honour killings and gang rape that have occurred in the recent past.

The Governor also took serious note of news reports on medical PG seat blocking scam in the state with the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences. The Governor, being a doctor, was anguished at the news, the Raj Bhavan said, adding that she directed the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Warangal to submit a detailed report immediately.
