Belagavi: All three accused in a case related to an alleged attempt to sacrifice a one-year-old girl at Bhadkal Galli in Belagavi are still absconding, while police are carrying out an intensive operation to nab them.
Meanwhile a woman, identified as Shireen, who was taken into police custody over the incident has been released after they found she had no links.
According to initial reports, the accused had dug up a big pit inside the house, which was rented out to them by Mohammad Peerzade for the past some years. They had allegedly taken Peerzade’s daughter with them on Monday morning and wanted to sacrifice her under the belief that they would get a hidden treasure.
Peerzade, who was out on work, was unaware of their tenants' plans. Soon after the incident the police had arrested a woman, a maid servant who used to work in the house of the accused. However she was not aware of the pit being dug inside.
While sources said, the accused were planning to sacrifice four children, including Peerzade’s daughter, but police sources have denied it. They said it was not yet clear whether the accused really wanted to sacrifice the child.
The police said they did not find any clues to ascertain that they planned to carry out a murder for the sake of the hidden treasure.
However, the police are also clueless as to why the accused dug up a big pit inside the house.
