Duo on sports bike die in collision with flyover wall, potholes blamed

HYDERABAD: Two men travelling on a 300CC sports bike died after ramming into the security wall of the Adikment flyover as the rider lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to unevenly fixed potholes on the stretch, around 2.45 am on Thursday.

The duo, K. Yashwanth, 31, a private sector employee, and his cousin, G. Sriram, 23, a student, were heading to Khairatabad to watch the Ganesh idol immersion, the police said.

P. Anjaneyulu of the Osmania University police station said Yashwanth was speeding. “They were heading from Uppal, via Tarnaka, Adikmet, and Nallakunta, towards Khairatabad.”

A sub-inspector said Yashwanth died on the spot while Sriram died on the way to the hospital.

Another police officer said that the flyover was recently repaired following road damage due to rain, and suspected that the bike skidded when the rider applied the brakes while travelling at a speed of over 130 kmph.

Asked about the possibility of poor quality of road work causing the accident, a GHMC maintenance officer claimed: “We have thoroughly fixed the issues; there are hundreds of commuters plying on the flyover and, so far, there is no complaint. In this case, the rider was riding a sports bike at a high speed and lost control.”

Police registered a case of case of rash and negligent driving under Section 304 (A) of the IPC and seized the bike. The bodies of the victims were shifted to the Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
