APSRTC driver assaulted by passengers in Nellore
Tirupati: Close on the heels of the incident of attack on an APSRTC driver, another state-run bus driver was allegedly assaulted by angry passengers at Vasili in the Nellore district on Tuesday.
According to the reports, driver Feroz refused to allow the passengers to board the bus, which was fully occupied. Enraged by this, the passengers in waiting forcibly pulled Feroz out of the bus and assaulted him with an umbrella. During the melee, a girl student fell down while boarding the bus. A mechanic, who came to the rescue of the driver, also received injuries.
Atmakur police registered a case after a complaint by Atmakur depot manager Sk. Karimunnisa, who condemned the brutal attack. An investigation into the matter was under way.
A few weeks ago, an RTC driver was attacked in Kavali over honking. RTC unions are demanding authorities ramp up security measures to prevent such assaults on bus employees while discharging their duties. They demanded stern action against the accused.
