Fraudsters used Collector’s photo as DP and seek financial help from doctors

ADILABAD: Cyber fraudsters reportedly cheated a few tahsildars and doctors of Adilabad district by using district collector Sikta Patnaik’s photograph as the DP and chatting with them a few days ago.

Adilabad superintendent of police Uday Kumar Reddy said they got a complaint from the Gudihathnoor tahsildar stating that he had received messages on his WhatsApp with the a purported ‘new’ phone number with the collector’s photograph as its DP.

Suspecting something amiss, the tahsildar went to the police. He said that the person who started chatting on WhatsApp pretending to be the collector was seeking financial help.

The SP said they were investigating the complaint and added that police had come to know that a doctor who got a similar message had transferred Rs 30,000.
