Karnataka: Two undertrials flee from Ramdurg jail
Belagavi: Two notorious undertrials escaped from jail at Ramdurg by breaking open the widow-grill at the jail's toilet late on Wednesday. They used a wood-cutter to break the window rods and later jumped out of the jail.
According to the police, the two inmates are Santosh Nandihal (32) from Vijayapura and Suresh Chaluwadi (35) from Mudhol.
Both entered the jail toilet together late on Wednesday and none of guards or fellow inmates woke up when the two were cutting the rods. The police have registered a case and still do not have any clue as to how the two were able to access a cutter inside the jail.
Nandihal had already served a jail-sentence of seven years after he was charged in a case of robbery registered in Bailhongal taluk.
After his release, he again got involved in committing robberies. He was recently caught by Ramdurg police for carrying out a robbery at Bailhongal. During interrogation he confessed to his involvement in robberies that took place at several places in Ramdurg and Bailhongal taluk in the last few months. He has been in Ramdurg jail since March.
Chaluvadi was facing charges of involvement in several cases of bike thefts in various parts of Belagavi and Vijayapura district. The police had arrested him for lifting eight bikes recently and put in Ramdurg jail 15 days ago. Several senior police officers visited the jail to take stock of the situation but are yet to get any clues about the duo's whereabouts.
