Cops may be involved in drug trade: Andhra Pradesh DGP
Vijayawada: AP Director-General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao on Saturday said some police officials were hand in glove with drug dealers and addicts in the state.
He said narcotics had been recovered in Kakinada in tablet form a few days ago. He said disciplinary action had begun on 3 inspector range officers in East Godavari, West Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts for alleged involvement in transporting drugs. If they charges were proved, they would be taken into custody.
Drug rings run deep: AP DGP
Mr Sambasiva Rao was speaking to mediapersons at Tiruchanur near Tirupati about the spread of the drugs business.
“We are working along with the excise department as an anti-drug task force in the state under the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He is quite serious about preventing the use of narcotics and alerted the police to take up the issue.”
Mentioning the busting of the drug ring of Calvin Mascarenhas, Mr Sambasiva Rao said, “With all this, we can understand that how deep the drug racket runs. The younger generations may be washed out by the addition to drugs. Some crimes have taken place due to drugs.
He said it was sad to see the police turn law-breakers. “Some officials are involved in transporting of drugs. We have arrested those who are involved in the drug rackets. No matter who are they, everyone will be punished if they are involved,” he said.
