DC Impact: They beat me up! Boy nails the Bengaluru cops
BENGALURU: In a swift action, Mico Layout police initiated a departmental inquiry against the two constables who allegedly assaulted a college student on Friday night.
After Deccan Chronicle published a report - Cops turn goons, kick, rob student — in its Monday edition, Mico Layout Inspector Shekhar and Sub-Inspector Natraj on Monday visited the spot where the incident took place and verified the CCTV footage. The victim also conclusively identified the two constables.
The victim's relieved mother, Sangita Nambiar, said, "My son along with us went to the police station today (Monday) and identified the two cops who assaulted him. The matter was reported to the police on Sunday night following which station sub-inspector Mr Natraj checked the CCTV footage and caught his own men. My son confirmed their identity.
Explanations were sought, arguments made, some weak justifications also made on why the violence happened. At the end of it, the police agreed that the violence was not justified and apologies were rendered. Mr Shekhar, Inspector Mico Layout police station, promised that appropriate action will be taken against the two erring policemen. We have also left two copies of our written complaint with him.”
She said, "We will leave it to the department to take appropriate action against them, coach and train them to ensure unwarranted violence is not used while interacting with citizens. My son and other young people needed to know that the justice system exists. And they need not fear it.”
A senior police officer told Deccan Chronicle that the two constables were on night duty and had found the boy standing at an isolated spot. "After conducting a check, they let him go. After the boy entered the apartment he abused the cops who in turn went there and reprimanded him. However, an appropriate action will be taken against the two constables," he said.
