Belagavi: Merely a week after the rape of a two-year-old girl in Bailhongal, another three-year-old girl from Raibag taluk in Belagavi district was brutally raped and murdered by her own uncle on Thursday night.
When the rapist was brought to the Civil Hospital, Belagavi a mob tried to attack him, but the police brought the situation under control.
The three-year-old girl from Kurabagatti, was taken away by her uncle Uddappa Ganiger (32) late on Thursday night into the fields on the village outskirts. The accused offered chocolates to the little girl and took her away from home. After raping the child, he stuffed her mouth with mud and buried her in the fields, police said.
When the girl was not found till late in the night, her family and relatives suspected foul play and some people told them that they saw Uddappa taking the child away. When the police interrogated Uddappa, he confessed to raping and killing the child. He was immediately arrested and brought to Belagavi for medical examination.
