Puducherry: A day after discovering the dead bodies of an elderly couple in a residential colony here on Wednesday morning, police solved the murder case and arrested two for killing the couple. Balakrishnan (72), a relative of former Local Administration Minister C Jayakumar and his 65-year-old wife Hemalatha were murdered after their house was burgled by miscreants.
Orleanpet police formed a special team under Special Task Inspector Karthikeyan after Chief Minister V Narayansamy directed the police to take quick action.
The investigation revealed that the driver of former Minister Mr Jayakumar used to send temporary drivers to Balakrishnan and the driver informed the police that he had sent Mohammed Kasim of Kottakuppam recently.
While trying to contact Kasim, the police found his phone switched off. A police team managed to arrest Kasim, who confessed during interrogation that he, along with his friend Mohammed Illiyas, had killed the duo and burgled the house. Police seized two cell phones, a motor cycle, stolen goods including ornaments and cash and foreign currencies from the possession of the culprits.
The deceased are French nationals of Puducherry origin and their children live in France.
