Belagavi court refuses bail to MLA Raju Kage, his family
Belagavi: A desperate attempt by BJP MLA Bharamagouda alias Raju Kage and his family's to get bail in an attack case failed on Monday as the Principal District and Sessions Court, Belagavi adjourned the hearing of their plea.
Six accused family members of Mr Kage, including his wife and daughter, are in the Hindalga central prison for the past five days after a JMFC court remanded them to judicial custody until February 1.
The court is unlikely to entertain their bail application until all the 13 people accused of attacking Vivek Shetty, a resident of Kagwad, on January 1 surrender to the police. The police said that among the 13 accused, six of MLA's family have been arrested, while seven others are still at large. The police did get clues about their whereabouts, but all of them continued to change their locations regularly to evade arrest for the past five days.
Mr Kage’s family members attacked Mr Shetty on January 1 after he posted a defamatory remark on MLA's daughter Facebook wall. MLA's family members and their supporters dragged Mr Shetty out of his house, brought him to their godown in Kagwad and brutally assaulted him. Shetty had fractured his leg and arm in the attack and has been admitted to a private hospital in Miraj since January 1.
