Woman suffers rape attempt, hospitalised in Tirunelveli
TIRUNELVELI: A hotel receptionist was injured when a gang allegedly attempted to rape her on her way home at around 9 pm on Sunday. The 42-year-old woman, who was reportedly followed by a three-member gang on her way home from her working place in Tirunelveli Junction was sought to be gangraped at a secluded place at C.N. Village in Tirunelveli.
As she cried for help, the rapists are alleged to have attacked her with stones and logs. When local people arrived there, the rapists escaped from the scene.
The injured woman was rushed to the Tirunelveli medical college hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
Tirunelveli Junction police, who registered a case arrested two of the men involved in the crime -Udyar (26) son of Subbaiah of CN Village and a daily wager, Somasundaram (22) son of Muthu of Meenakshipuram, Tirunelveli, and are interrogating them. Police are also on the lookout for the third accused, Arumugam (25) son of Subbaiah of Lakshmipuram.
