3 jailed for 10 years over minor’s marriage
VISAKHAPATNAM: Special Judge for Pocso Cases, Visakhapatnam, sentenced a widow and her two grown-up sons to 10-year rigorous imprisonment over forcible marriage of a 15-year-old minor girl.
Pullakandam Giria and her two sons Satish Kumar, accused number one and Santosh Kumar, the other accused; have been incarcerated after Satish violated law by forcibly taking away a minor girl from her parents, marrying her and consummating the marriage.
Following this, parents of the girl lodged a complaint with Newport police station. It registered a case under sections 366 and 376 of IPC and Section 4 of Pocso Act.
The then inspector G. Srinivasa Rao investigated the case and arrested Satish, his brother and mother. The three got prosecuted in the Pocso court, where police presented all evidence.
Convinced with prosecution’s arguments, the special judge convicted all three to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in Pocso case with a fine of ₹10,000. The three also got convicted under IPC 366 and 376 for five-year imprisonment and fine of another ₹10,000. Both sentences will run concurrently, the judge added.
