Andhra Pradesh duo had Rs 155 crore assets
Visakhapatnam: The ACB caught two big fish on Friday, an engineer in Vijayawada and a medical professor in Vizag. The two are good friends and business partners and related by marriage.
ACB sleuths raided properties of Pamu Panddurunga Rao, engineer-in-chief, public health and municipal engineering, Vijayawada, and Prof. Nalli Babu Vijaya Kumar of the Andhra Medical College at Visakhapatnam.
Dr Rao was accused of amassing illegal assets worth over Rs 120 crore and arrested; Prof. Kumar was arrested for amassing over Rs 35 crore illegal assets.
ACB Director-General R.P. Thakur said they had never unearthed assets on such a huge scale before.
“We were surprised at how Panddurunga Rao amassed the assets. It appears to be the biggest case for ACB,” he said.
The raids were simultaneously conducted at 14 places in Vizag, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur districts and Hyderabad.
In 1987, Panddurunga Rao, a Kotcherla in Krishna district, joined government service as deputy executive engineer. He was working as engineer-in-chief from 2011.
